The teeth whitening process is not painful; however, some patients experience mild teeth sensitivity to hot and cold afterward. We use only the highest-quality whitening treatment that is specially formulated to reduce sensitivity, so any discomfort will be minimal and temporary. If you do experience teeth sensitivity, it will usually go away on its own shortly after your treatment is over.
The whitening agent in our teeth whitening systems contains oxygen molecules that interact with the discolored molecules in your teeth enamel. The discolored molecules are broken up, and your teeth are left a sparkling white. Depending on your wants and needs, we can alter the level of whitening by changing the strength of the whitening agent and how long it’s applied.
You’ll want to avoid eating or drinking for at least four hours after your whitening treatment. Just sip water during that time. In fact, during the first 48 hours, we recommend you have a diet of “white” foods, like bread, pasta, yogurt, rice, milk, turkey, chicken, etc. Your teeth are porous after the whitening, which means they are more susceptible to picking up stains. To achieve the best results and to experience less sensitivity, adjust your diet those first couple of days.
